Decision-support table template: the skeleton of the comparison

This resource is the empty skeleton of the decision-support comparison table: rows that any building can fill in for any set of three quotes. The methodology behind the table is in the criteria-table article and the decision article – here the structure is the point: copy it, fill it in, take it to the general meeting.

In short:
  • The template's six blocks: basic data, scope of cover, sums and limits, deductibles, service, premium – in that order.
  • Golden rule: the premium row comes last – content first.
  • If the building runs the tender with me, you get the filled-in table ready-made – this template is for checking things on your own.

The skeleton of the table

CriterionQuote 1Quote 2Quote 3
Sum insured (at rebuild value)
Renewal date / start of the insurer's cover
Natural perils (how far the list goes)
Water damage from pipes (with tracing and access work?)
Glass breakage (scope + limit)
Building liability (limit!)
Burglary and criminal damage, vandalism
Add-ons (lift, solar panels, other)
Deductibles (cover by cover)
Main exclusions, policy terms
Claim reporting, service
Annual premium (payment schedule)

Tip: mark the critical differences (with a ★ or a colour, say) – at the general meeting the discussion will be built around them.

Advice on filling it in

The sum-insured row is only comparable if every quote is written on the same value – if it isn't, have the quotes brought onto a common basis first (sizing). In the cover rows don't write “yes/no”, write substance: the limit, the condition – the word “yes” hides something different in every quote. In the deductible row it is worth thinking in forints as well, applied to a typical claim (how deductibles work). And the questions worth putting to whoever brings the quote: 5 questions.
